The Regents Alternative Pathway to Iowa Licensure (RAPIL) is designed to help experienced professionals answer the call to teach – bringing their talent and expertise into Iowa’s secondary classrooms.

Iowa’s Regent schools - The University of Iowa, The University of Northern Iowa, and Iowa State University – all contribute resources and support to the RAPIL program.

This program is an alternative pathway to obtain an initial Iowa teaching license that includes rigorous coursework, development of pedagogy, and on-site field experiences that prepare career-changers to enter the classroom as educators.

RAPIL is not a degree-offering program. Successful completion of coursework and a year-long internship result in the recommendation for an Initial Iowa Teaching License.
